INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITING CAMP IN GOTHENBURG
During Viva Sounds in Gothenburg, Moonbase Music hosted an international songwriting camp in collaboration with IMPF.
A stone’s throw away from many of the main stages during Viva Sounds is the office of Moonbase Music, equipped with studios and custom spaces for songwriters. During the festival, an international songwriting camp called Poppin’ West was held, involving about fifteen songwriters from various countries, in partnership with the International Association of Independent Music Publishers, IMPF.
Currently, Gothenburg lacks a dedicated space for professional songwriters and producers to meet, network, and create world class music. This is where Poppin’ West comes into play; we aim for it to rejuvenate Gothenburg’s music scene.
Across the street, industry professionals had gathered for seminars and panel discussions at Viva Sounds. Among the first batch of Poppin’ West participants were songwriters or publishers from/representing Japan, Germany, Finland, Estonia, and Sweden.
We view Poppin’ West as more than just a one-time event; we aspire to offer an annual international platform for creators worldwide. It’s an effort to bolster Gothenburg’s position as a formidable musical force and, to some extent, revive its significance in music production and songwriting within pop.
During the initial camp, participants specifically targeted the Asian and Western music markets, and the outcomes were extremely positive. Songwriters collaborated for three days, getting the chance to network and establish connections with various industry stakeholders.
Moonbase Music intends to continue the Poppin’ West initiative next year and also invites songwriters to their meeting place throughout the rest of the year.
